🏆 Breakthrough Artist of 2023:
When it comes down to reviewing the best of the year, some categories can be almost impossible to choose a winner from. This year the best breakthrough artist proved to be such. Awash with brand new and up and coming talent from across the globe, I decided that a stand out artist this year had to be someone I had seen live, and also released a new album within the past 12 months. Although several artists I had selected also fell into this category, the one that stood out in my mind the most was Australian classic rock inspired artist Cassidy Paris.
At just 20 years old the extremely talented young Aussie has already released two EPs, ‘Broken Hearted’ and ‘Flirt’, and at the back end of the year released her debut album as a solo artist titled ‘New Sensation’, which was released on the 8th December via her new label Frontiers Music s.r.l. With a very bright future ahead of her she draws a lot of inspiration and comparison to female pop/rock legends such as Joan Jett, Lzzy Hale, Pink, Pat Benatar and even Avril Lavigne.
With production and stage presence beyond her years, she’s no stranger to the industry. At the age of 11, Cassidy met singer songwriter Paul Laine (ex Danger Danger, The Defiants), who developed a unique mentoring role. Paul took Cassidy under his wing to help develop her as an artist and songwriter, collaborating with her in songwriting and producing her music.
If you’re looking for a great and easy to listen to rock album, and you happen to be a fan of 80s style melodic rock, then I strongly urge you all to give Cassidy Paris’s debut album ‘New Sensation’ a listen to. Right from the opening track ‘Danger’, she channels that inner Leigh Matty of Romeo’s Daughter, big sound and stunning vocals. There’s ballads and feel good rock anthems a plenty. ‘Walking On Fire’ is another personal favourite from the album, its just a good sing along number. The track ‘Addicted’ brings an upbeat Joan Jett meets early Pink style anthem, one to crank the volume on and must have on a party anthems playlist.
In 2022 I had the pleasure of catching Cassidy Paris live at Winterstorm Festival, she played the Sessions Stage to an extremely packed out room and gave off the vibes and the confidence of a seasoned artist in their prime. She also was invited back to play Winterstorm Festival Legends and Legacies in 2023, but this time around her popularity had grown massively and we simply couldn’t get into the room to see her play. Despite being disappointed not to catch her set this time, at her age and rising status, I doubt this will be my last chance to see her perform.
Having already toured with the likes of John Corabi and H.E.A.T, played many European dates and festivals, as well as shows in America and Japan, Cassidy Paris is fast becoming one of rocks rising super talents. Growing her fanbase across the globe and making a name for herself, I look forward to seeing where her career heads next. A worthy winner of best breakthrough artist of 2023!
